HOW IT STARTED
Built On A Simple Belief
R&M Coatings began with a simple belief: every surface deserves expert care. What started as a small residential painting operation has grown into a full-service coatings company trusted by property managers, general contractors, business owners, and homeowners throughout New Jersey and the Greater Philadelphia region.
R&M Coatings was built after seeing a major gap in the industry — too many contractors cutting corners on prep work, rushing through projects, and using subpar materials. We were built to do things differently: thorough surface preparation, premium coatings, clean job sites, disciplined execution, and finishes that last for years — not months.
Today, R&M Coatings serves both commercial and residential clients with the same dedication to quality that started it all — from commercial repaints and tenant fit-outs to epoxy floors, cabinet finishes, drywall repair, specialty coatings, exterior restoration, and high-end decorative finishes.
Meet The Founder
Ricky Kim
Our founder, Ricky Kim, brings a rare combination of hands-on trade experience and professional construction management knowledge. Ricky started in the trades at a young age, personally working in painting, drywall, carpentry, surface preparation, coatings, repairs, and finish work. Over the years, that field experience grew into leadership roles as both a superintendent and project manager on commercial, municipal, and public construction projects.
His background includes managing and coordinating work on 30+ Wells Fargo branch projects throughout Pennsylvania, high-security occupied commercial spaces, and large-scale construction projects including the $15M+ South Brunswick Public Library. With experience managing over $20M+ in construction work, Ricky understands the importance of scheduling, communication, site cleanliness, safety, quality control, and delivering work the right way the first time.

Ricky has personally performed the services R&M offers, including commercial and residential painting, tenant fit-outs and repaints, drywall repair, surface preparation, cabinet finishing, fine finish spraying, epoxy floor coatings, metallic epoxy systems, protective coatings, metal and rust restoration coatings, power washing, exterior restoration, decorative finishes, specialty coatings, Venetian plaster, lime wash, faux finishes, staining, trim painting, door refinishing, and occupied-space/off-hours work.
That hands-on background allows R&M Coatings to approach every project with a deeper understanding of the process, materials, scheduling, protection, and details required to produce a lasting finish. We understand what proper prep looks like because we have done it. We understand how coatings fail because we have repaired them. We understand how to protect occupied spaces because we have worked in them. And we understand how to deliver clean, professional work because that standard is built into every project.
